Santa Susanna is the first destination chosen by foreign tourists who take holidays in El Maresme

18.9 percent of visitors who come from abroad choose the municipality according to a study by the County Council based on mobile phone location data from 2024.

Santa Susanna is the favorite destination in the Maresme region for foreign tourists looking to vacation in a quiet and familiar environment. A study by the Local Development Observatory of the County Council, based on the location data of the mobile phones of the foreign population collected by the National Institute of Statistics of Spain (INE), indicates that between the months of May and October 2024 Santa Susanna received 180,001 visitors, which represents 18.9% of all tourists who came to El Maresme.

The acceptance of a tourism model based on the concept of the oasis, which is synonymous with quality, tranquility, health and safety, is demonstrated by the fact that the volume of foreign tourists increased by 9.59% compared to 2023. The specialization – and therefore, the commitment – to family leisure and sports leisure in a territory that makes sustainability policies its raison d'être continue to yield results and place Santa Susanna as a benchmark for quiet sun and beach tourism and nature and sports.  

In this ranking, Calella occupies the second position (16.65%), Malgrat de Mar the third (14.56%) and Mataró the fourth (11.84%).

The region is doing well

Globally, the overnight stay of foreign tourists in El Maresme has once again broken records during 2024, approaching one million visitors. There have been 953,507 residents abroad who chose one of the 30 municipalities of the region to spend their holidays. This is the highest figure in the last 5 years.

As for the country of origin, France (19.2%) and Germany (13.0%) stand out, followed by the United Kingdom (13%). They are followed by the Netherlands (10.8%), Poland (5.1%), Italy (4.6%) and Belgium (3.9%).
