The promoters of the Alliance of Coastal Tourist Municipalities meet with the director of Tourism of the Generalitat

The mayors of Santa Susanna, Joan Campolier; Salou, Pere Granados; Lloret de Mar, Adrià Lamelas; and L'Ametlla de Mar, Eva del Amo met today in Barcelona with the general director of Tourism of the Generalitat, Cristina Lagé. They have done so as representatives of the promoting municipalities of the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of the Catalan Coast (AMT Costa Catalana). It is a group of municipalities that represents around 16 million overnight stays annually and that seeks to lead a new model of coastal tourism based on sustainability and deseasonalization.

The meeting served to convey to the general director the main axes and challenges of the AMT Costa Catalana. The main ones are the need to create a specific financing system adapted to the needs of tourist municipalities, as well as urban improvement and the establishment of synergies with companies and administrations. Emphasis has also been placed on promoting innovation and training in the sector, promoting the safety and protection of environmental spaces, developing blue tourism and implementing adaptation measures to climate change. During the meeting, the importance of promoting inclusive and accessible mobility was highlighted, and the promotion of projects that respond to the current needs of the tourism sector was analyzed.

The Alliance is defined as a collaborative platform aimed at the exchange of knowledge and ideas, the coordination of efforts and the development of joint strategies to deseasonalize tourism and improve its quality.

The representatives of the Alliance thanked the Government of Catalonia for its willingness to establish future collaborations and underlined the need to make efforts between institutions and actors in the sector to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability in the tourist destinations of the Catalan Coast.
