Santa Susanna will compete to revalidate the Ecovidrio Green Flag and continue on the podium of the Catalan towns that recycle best

The seventh edition of this campaign recognises the commitment of city councils and hospitality establishments to sustainability and the circular economy

The Santa Susanna City Council and more than 13 hospitality establishments in the town will participate this summer in the seventh edition of the Ecovidrio #MovimientoBanderasVerdes. This Ecovidrio campaign aims to recognize the effort of the local hospitality industry and city councils in favor of the correct management of their waste.

Santa Susanna will compete with 18 municipalities in Catalonia with the aim of achieving, for the third consecutive year, the "Green Flag of Sustainability". In this seventh edition, the two hospitality establishments that stand out for their good environmental practices in Catalonia will also be recognized, evaluating their initiatives to improve the management of waste recycling, their energy and water consumption or their commitment to sustainable purchasing, among other variables.

In 2025, Santa Susanna revalidated Ecovidrio's Green Flag and became one of the three municipalities in Catalonia – behind Torroella de Montgrí and Castelldefels – that best recycle glass containers. In 2024, the municipality won the Green Sustainability Flag for the first time and ranked fourth in all of Catalonia.

In Spain, 120 municipalities will participate

In Spain, more than 120 municipalities and more than 12,000 restaurants, bars and kiosks will join the #MovimientoBanderasVerdes. With this initiative, Ecovidrio seeks to respond to the increase in the generation of glass containers in coastal areas during the summer season. During the summer, a third of the glass containers that are put into circulation are consumed, and about 50% of the waste of single-use glass containers comes from the hospitality sector.
