The premiere of Santa Susanna as the venue for one of the stages of the women's Volta Ciclista a Catalunya (in this case, the inaugural stage of the 3rd edition) leaves a positive balance with more than a thousand people staying in the municipality. On Friday, June 19, the Volta kicked off, but in Santa Susanna the organization of the race landed a few days earlier.
Among the people who are part of the organization of the Volta, the Mossos d'Esquadra who watch over it, the participating teams and those accompanied, more than a thousand people have stayed during these days in hotels in Santa Susanna. This means that directly and also indirectly the municipality has benefited from this event.
The second positive effect of hosting the inaugural stage of the Volta is the presence of the people in the European media (press, radio and television). Santa Susanna has occupied the pages of newspapers, radio hours and also television and social networks. As it is a highly valued sporting event on a European scale, its impact on the media has been great. For example, the Santa Susanna stage could be followed live through Esport3 (Televisió de Catalunya) and digitally by 3Cat; for Teledeporte and the RTVE Play platform; and on Eurosport's digital channels.
This media presence has served to make Santa Susanna visible as a sports and family tourism destination, to show the competitive infrastructures it has and to show the environmental commitment of the municipality. But also to highlight the firm commitment of the Santa Susanna City Council in favor of women's sport.
A Dutch woman wins here
The young Dutch sprinter Nienke Veenhoven (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) was the winner of the Santa Susanna stage. He did so after covering the 91.9 kilometers of a stage that entered the Parc del Montnegre i el Corredor (with the Coll del Pollastre and the Alt de Collsacreu, 3rd category) and then crossed the regions of Vallès Oriental and La Selva until returning to Santa Susanna.
