Mayor Joan Campolier meets with the Minister of Sports of the Generalitat, Berni Álvarez, to explain how the event will go and to convey the need to improve some sports facilities.

The XLV National Sports Gala 2026, organized by the Spanish Sports Press Association, will be held next April in Santa Susanna. It is one of the most important sports festivals held in Spain. It has a long tradition, as shown by the fact that next year's will be number 45. The event serves to pay tribute to the best athletes in Spain in 2025. Last year, the Gala was held in Valladolid and recognized, among others, the Women's Water Polo Team, the women's football team, sailors and a long etcetera.

For a few hours, Santa Susanna will become the capital of Spanish sport. All the focus will be on what will be done and said here. Last week, Mayor Joan Campolier met with the Minister of Sports of the Generalitat, Berni Álvarez, to talk about the role of the municipality as host of this Sports Gala. Mayor Campolier explained to the councillor what the town offers in the organization of the event, which is summarized in a good hotel and service infrastructure that is capable of responding to the needs of a Gala of these characteristics. The meeting also served for the mayor to share with the Minister of Sports of Catalonia the proposals for improving the town's sports facilities.

Around 1,500 people will come

Coinciding with the Gala, the 62nd Congress of the Spanish Sports Press will also be held in Santa Susanna. These two events, Gala and Congress, move a lot of people. According to the data of previous editions, it can be assured that around 1,500 people will come to the municipality, almost 1,200 will attend the Gala and about 300 at the Congress.

Between April 28 and May 2, 2024, the 86th Congress of the International Sports Press Association was held in Santa Susanna. At that time, those responsible for the event already praised the municipality for having a hotel infrastructure and solvent services to take on major world events. An example of this is Fitness, as the then recently elected president of Spanish sports journalists, Jesús Álvarez, who was in Santa Susanna to attend the European Fitness Championship, was able to verify on April 30, 2024.
