The Santa Susanna City Council, invited by the Barcelona Provincial Council, has presented the project for the Calculation and Verification of the carbon footprint of Santa Susanna's tourism activity for the year 2023 at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024. This project was awarded at the last Alimara Awards for research in the field of Sustainability.

The presentation was given by Rafael Moreno, Smart Destination Manager and head of the European Funds portfolio of the Santa Susanna City Council.

The main objective of the project is, based on the results, to design a neutrality plan for the municipality by saving the consumption of resources, to promote circular economy policies and to position Santa Susanna as a municipality committed to the environment.

The Smart City Expo is the world's largest event for cities and urban innovation, which aims to enable a better life for all. This year, the congress had more than 25,000 attendees, 1,150 exhibitors and 632 speakers from more than 130 countries.
